Free letter tracing worksheets A to Z with dotted letters and pictures

This is our complete set of free letter tracing worksheets, from A to Z. Each page focuses on one letter, with a picture that starts with that sound, a big dotted letter to trace with a finger, and rows of uppercase and lowercase letters to trace with a pencil.

All 26 pages share the same layout, so once your child knows how one page works, they can do the rest on their own.

What your child practices

  • Letter formation: dots follow the path a pencil takes, from the starting point to the end.
  • Uppercase and lowercase on the same page.
  • Letter sounds: apple, ball, cat… all the way to zebra.
  • Writing on lines: top line, dashed midline and baseline, just like school paper.

How to use the letter tracing pages

  1. Say the picture word and listen for the first sound.
  2. Trace the big letters with a finger. Start at the top.
  3. Trace one or two rows with a pencil. The solid letter at the start of each row shows what the finished letter looks like.
  4. Color the picture to finish the page.

Alphabet Handwriting, Letter Tracing A–Z

26 letter tracing pages, one for each letter, US Letter size (8.5×11 in).

In what order should we trace the letters?

A to Z is fine, but it isn't the only way. Many teachers start with letters made of straight lines (L, T, I, E, F, H), then add curves (C, O, S) and finish with diagonals (K, V, W, X, Y, Z). Another easy start is the letters in your child's name.

Tips for tracing

One letter a day is plenty for most preschoolers. Short, regular practice works better than a long session.

Watch the starting point. Most letters start at the top. Gently show your child where to begin if they start at the bottom.

Make a letter book. Staple finished pages together into an alphabet book your child can "read" to you.
