Halloween is one of the most exciting days of the year for a preschooler: costumes, pumpkins, a little bit of spooky. That excitement makes it a great time to sneak in some learning. These Halloween activities for preschool keep things friendly, with smiling pumpkins, cats and bats and nothing scary.
Below are four free Halloween worksheets plus easy activity ideas you can do with a pumpkin and a few craft supplies.
What your child practices
- Counting 1 to 5 with pumpkins.
- The letter P: tracing big P and small p, with a pumpkin to color.
- Pencil control in an easy 5×5 maze.
- Patterns: pumpkin-bat-pumpkin-bat, and two trickier ones.
How to use the Halloween pages
- Start with Count the Pumpkins. Point and count each pumpkin, then circle the number.
- Trace P is for Pumpkin. Say "p-p-pumpkin" and listen for the first sound together.
- Do the maze. Help the cat find its way to the pumpkin. Tracing the path with a finger first makes it easier.
- Finish with What Comes Next? Say each pattern out loud like a chant, then circle the next picture.

Easy Halloween activities for preschoolers
- Pumpkin investigation. Feel the bumpy skin, count the ridges, and guess: will it float? Try it in the sink.
- Pumpkin seed counting. After carving, wash and dry a handful of seeds and count them into cups.
- Bat sorting. Cut paper bats in two sizes and sort them into big and small.
- Halloween I spy. "I spy something orange…" on a walk past decorated houses.
- Costume words. Ask what sound their costume starts with: "p-p-pirate!"
Keep it calm
Some little ones find Halloween a bit too much. If decorations or costumes worry your child, stick to pumpkins and cats, and keep the day's routine as normal as possible. A quiet worksheet at the kitchen table can be a nice break between the exciting parts.
